What is an ATS score and why does it matter?

Last updated 1 April 2026

ATS stands for Applicant Tracking System. It is software used by companies

to automatically screen resumes before any human reads them.

In India, over 60% of companies with more than 500 employees use ATS.

Globally, 98% of Fortune 500 companies use ATS screening.

Around 40% of applications are screened out before a human ever sees them.

What RoleGrowth's ATS score measures (0 to 100):

  • Keywords match: Does your resume contain the key skills and terms from the JD?
  • Bullet strength: Are your bullets achievement-oriented with quantified results?
  • Format and structure: Is your resume formatted in a way ATS can parse correctly?
  • Length: Is your resume the right length for your experience level?

Score ranges:

  • 0 to 49: Likely to be screened out automatically
  • 50 to 74: Apply cautiously, consider tailoring first
  • 75 to 89: Good, strong chance of passing ATS
  • 90 to 100: Excellent, well optimised for this role

The score is calculated against a specific job description.

Without a JD pasted, you see your general resume quality score.
